Debris from a Russian drone of the Gerbera model was found on the Latvian coast, in the Ventspils region. The equipment was identified after local residents spotted it on the beach and alerted security services.
Military personnel conducted an initial analysis and confirmed that it was a drone frequently used by Russia in actions against Ukraine and in provocations against NATO countries.
According to experts, the fragments likely reached the shore after falling into the Baltic Sea during military operations or training flights. Similar incidents have occurred in other areas of the region, where it is common to find remnants of Russian military equipment carried by the sea.
The Gerbera drone is lightweight, made of foam, and can be used for reconnaissance missions, suicide attacks, or as a target to confuse air defense systems. Since 2024, it has been increasingly used by Russia.
Recently, incursions of this model have been recorded in the airspaces of Lithuania and Poland, raising concerns about security on NATO’s eastern flank.
